“A generous and ambitious work showing how podcasting has become a credible, participatory research practice across disciplines. The kind of methodological guide I wish existed during my graduate studies.”

Stacey Copeland, University of Groningen and the Amplify Podcast Network

“This book is music to a scholarly podcaster’s ears and a great practical guide for podcast-curious researchers who want to add to their methodological toolkit.”

Ian Cook, Dublin City University

Latest news: Field recording in Antarctica

I recently worked on ships in Antarctica as an expedition guide, lecturer, and zodiac driver. I simultaneously collected sonic data for my PhD in Polar Studies, which focuses on Antarctica's changing soundscapes, and what we can learn about this continent when we listen closely...

I spent over 3 months recording the sounds of icebergs, glaciers, whales, penguin colonies, seals, snow avalanches, and any other sounds I could find in Antarctica.

Having returned with a large library of polar sounds, I am now working on a new podcast, sound installation, and music album (besides, of course, my PhD dissertation...).

Please Hold Album

I reworked the research data (interviews with students and academics) from my award-winning Cambridge MPhil dissertation and turned its research results into spoken word performances. The album contains 'data poems', composed with expressions used by students and academics to describe their experiences of the pandemic and their hopes and fears for the future of Higher Education after Covid-19.

PLEASE HOLD, my debut album as a researcher-musician-poet is now available on all major streaming & downloading platforms. This includes Spotify, Apple Music, iTunes, Amazon, Deezer, Bandcamp and YouTube. Purchase the album on Bandcamp, visit my website on HearNow to find links to all the platforms, or check out my YouTube channel. Stream the album on Spotify now too!

I’m beyond honored to have been selected as 1 of the 50 most promising talents in de Netherlands by het Financieele Dagblad (FD).

I’ve been selected because of my data music innovations.  As a researcher, I bridge between arts and research by turning data into music. This way, research outcomes become more accessible, relatable, and impactful.

My music album ‘Please Hold’ was played on BBC and Dutch national radio. In the Fall of 2021, I went on tour in the UK for 7 weeks. I performed at over 16 different events.

More recently, I’ve been teaching about my methods at various universities, incl. the University of Cambridge.
